Let's Talk Bookish

Let’s talk bookish

Hi everyone I hope you are all having an amazing day and are staying safe. Let’s Talk Bookish is a bookish meme created by Rukky at Eternity Books and Dani at Literary Lion and is now being hosted by Aria over at Book Nook Bits. Each month they come up with a list of topics for us all to discuss and share our opinions on as well as spreading the love by reading each others posts.

January 20: Collecting Books (Zahra  The Owl)

Prompts: Do you enjoy collecting books? Do you feel like physical books are overpriced? Do you buy books after you’ve read them to add to your collection? Do you buy special edition collector sets? How invested are you in your book collection?

I love collecting books, have been doing it since I was a kid and I have books on my shelves that I have owned since I was 8/9 years old. My bookshelves are my pride and joy and I am aware of how privileged I am to have them.

I love knowing that my favourites are there like old friends waiting for me to jump back into them. I also like knowing that there are books that I haven’t read yet on those shelves and numerous new worlds waiting to be explored within their pages. My dream is to have my own library in my house.

Before coming to the USA I would have said I thought books were pretty reasonably prized. But then I walked into Barnes and Noble and took one look at the prices and was just like WHAT!! I honestly still can’t get my head around how expensive they are, back home in the UK I can literally get the hardback edition for less money than I’d pay for the paperback over here.

Like a lot of people I do love a special editions of books. But they are usually a lot more expensive than other editions so I’m usually pretty strict with what special editions I buy and only own a few of them.

I’m definitely very invested in my collection and while I know that they are just objects, they hold so many memories. They are more than just some words on paper, they are worlds that I have escaped into when things get stressful and overwhelming. They are old friends that have helped me navigate through life and have helped me to better understand myself and the world around me.

What are your thoughts on book collecting??
