Hi everyone, I hope you all had an amazing spooky season and are staying safe. I can’t believe that not only is October over but that was my last October in the USA, which is slightly heartbreaking because I love Halloween and no one celebrates it the way the Americans do.
I spent this month indulging in as much Halloween fun as I could from trick or treating with my host kids, going to a pumpkin patch, carving pumpkins and dressing up and going out with my friends. However, the nightly of this month was definitely my trip to Salem. I have wanted to visit for as long as I can remember and my inner witch loved every moment of it.
This month I focused on books with dark and spooky vibes and am happy to say I enjoyed all of them
I of course had to start the month with Stephen King and finally picked up his book Misery which has been on my TBR for a while. This is definitely my favorite of his books so far and Anne Wilkes is terrifying. I gave this 4 out of 5 stars.
After watching The Nightmare Before Christmas 3 times this month I also had to pick up the sequel Long Live the Pumpkin Queen by Shea Ernshaw. Was this a masterpiece, no, however it definitely scratched an itch and I loved seeing Sally’s story. I gave this 3 out of 5 stars.
Then I read The Death of Jane Lawrence by Caitlin Starling, which I have mixed feelings about. I felt the pacing was pretty decent for this, I loved the dark gothic atmosphere but the plot I found to be quite confusing and I got completely lost at the end. I have this 2.5 stars.
I finished the month on a major high and a book that will definitely be making it to my favorites of the year list, The House of Hunger by Alexis Henderson. I loved her first book and was so excited to pick this one up and am happy to say that it exceeded all expectations, it was the perfect October read and if you are looking for one last spooky book to read before the Christmas season then I would highly recommend this one. I gave this 5 out of 5 stars.
This month I saw Don’t Worry Darling which was such a good movie, was I confused for most of it yes but was it worth definitely yes. I also love Florence Pugh and she does such an amazing job in this.
I binged Watcher series on Netflix this month as well and while it wasn’t my favorite show. I was very gripped by the story and couldn’t stop watching.
Another show I watched this month was House of the Dragon. I was very apprehensive going into this, like many other Game of Thrones fans, but am so glad to say those fears were unwarranted. This show was amazing, the actors did a brilliant job of bringing the characters to life and it was a great set up for the next seasons. Also team black all the way.
How was your month?? What was your favorite read?? Have you seen House of the Dragon?? What were your thoughts on it??
