Wrap Ups and Hauls

Beginning of the Year Wrap Up

Hi everyone, I hope you are all having an amazing day and are staying safe, and welcome to my first wrap up of the year. So this year I haven’t done great reading wise and didn’t see the point in writing a wrap up with only 2 books on it so instead I will just be doing quarterly updates until things start picking up.

The main reason for the slow start to my year is my job. I work as a nurse and currently my workload has pretty much doubled and so I have very little free time. My personal life has also suddenly become really busy and so what little free time I do have is taken up by that. I’m not going go discuss it yet as I’m still in the process of sorting  and finalising things so don’t want to risk jinxing anything.

Anyway on to the books that I have managed to pick up. In January I read 1 novel and  3 poetry collection. In February I picked up 2 books and in March I started several books and finished none of them 🤦‍♀️

The novels that I have picked up were:

Blanca & Roja by Anne-Marie McLemore. I was not surprised by how much I loved this, Anne-Marie’s writing is gorgeous and she does an amazing job of bringing her stories to life. I gave this 5 out of 5 stars.

All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson. This was such a wonderful and important memoir and is the queet lit that we need. I gave this 5 out of 5 stars.

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas. As with all Sarah J. Maas books this wasn’t perfect and has lots of flaws, I couldn’t help but love it anyway. I gave this 5 out of 5 stars and have a full review coming.

The three poetry collections I read were:

Break Your Glass Slippers by Amanda Lovelace. I adore Amanda’s poetry and this collection was no different, I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

Homebody by Rupi Kaur. I love Rupi’s style of poetry and the way focuses on mental health in this one. I gave it 3 our of 5 stars.

Goddess of the Hunt by Shelby Eileen. This collection was the first own voices aro-ace and I loved seeing more of this representation throughout. I gave this 3 out of 5 stars.

If you have been with this blog a while you might remember that my wraps used to be really long as I would include a lot more than just what I have been reading that month and decided to shorten them down to just book related content. However I have been becoming bored with this and thought I would switch it back up again and also talk about some of the other things I have been loving.

First off this year I watched my very first Aisan drama and my god they definitely take the word drama and run with it in this one. Meteor Garden was one that I just could not stop watching,  I wasn’t the biggest fan at the start but it grew on me as it went it and while this was a relationship that no one should aspire to and was downright abusive to start it still managed to draw me in.

I also watched and loved Wandavision and this has lead me to rewatching all the Marvel movies (watching Guardians of the Galaxy as I write this).

Spreading the love

I really miss showcasing all of the amazing blogs out there so have decided to bring this back. Where I link to some of my favourite posts of the month.

How has your month been?? What have you been reading/watching??

  1. Great wrap up! I enjoyed reading the posts that you shared as well 😊 I’ve been seeing WandaVision mentioned everywhere and for some reason haven’t had the urge to watch it yet but I do watch very little TV so there’s that. It’s definitely high up on the list of series to watch! I also (finally) caved into read ACOSF. I wasn’t a huge fan of Nesta in the ACOTAR series (sorry lol) but I’ve seen a lot of people say they end up liking her here so I’m curious!

  2. Lovely wrap-up! I still need to get to reading Blanca & Roja by Anne-Marie McLemore, it’s the only book by this author I haven’t read but all others were 5 stars. I’m slowly making my way through the ACO audiobooks just so that I can finally read A Court of Silver Flames. SJM books at this point are comfort reads lol. I hope you have a lovely April! ❤
