For nearly a century, the Nomeolvides women have tended the grounds of La Pradera, the lush estate gardens that enchant guests from around the world. They’ve also hidden a tragic legacy: if they fall in love too deeply, their lovers vanish. But then, after generations of vanishings, a strange boy appears in the gardens.

The boy is a mystery to Estrella, the Nomeolvides girl who finds him, and to her family, but he’s even more a mystery to himself; he knows nothing more about who he is or where he came from than his first name. As Estrella tries to help Fel piece together his unknown past, La Pradera leads them to secrets as dangerous as they are magical in this stunning exploration of love, loss, and family.

This book is so beautiful and I loved every second of it.

This book follows the story of the Nomeolvides women who tend to the gardens of La Pradera as they are able to grow flowers with only their hands. However, the Nomeolvides women are cursed as not only will they die if they try to leave LA Pradera but those they fall in love with will disappear. The youngest generation of Nomeolvides women cousins; Estrella, Gloria, Dalia, Azalea, and Calla have all fallen in love with the same woman, Bay, and they will do anything to protect her. The night after the cousins beg protection for Bay from La Pradera Estrella finds a boy, Fel, who the Nomeolvides women believe may be a previous lover that La Pradera has seen fit to give back.

There are two POV characters in this, the first being Estrella I loved reading from her point of and watching her find her own individuality outwith being a Nomeolvides women. The second POV character is Fel who is the boy that Estrella finds in the La Pradera gardens and he is so precious and most be protected at all costs.

I love the family dynamics in this and how important family is to the characters not only blood families but also found families. I also adore the romance in this and it’s one of the best I have read this year.

The writing in this is so beautiful and lyrical and this is by far my favourite writing style. The way Anna-Marie brings this world alive through her writing is magnificent and I definitely need to pick up the rest of her work.

I also love the representation in this as its an own voices Latinx story, Estrella and her cousins are all also bisexual and their are gay and lesbian side characters. This is also the first book I’ve read where the bisexual character was in a m/f relationship and I really loved how this was represented.

Overall this was such a beautiful and heart-warming read and I gave it 5 out of 5 stars.

Have you read this book? What did you think of it?
