Wrap Ups and Hauls

April Wrap Up

This month hasn’t been the best I’ve been really stressed out with my uni work and my mental health also hasn’t been great but I’ve been pushing through and only have two assessments left and then I’m out on placement and don’t have to worry about uni work until September.

Despite being so busy this month I managed to read 7 books which I’m really proud of.

The first book I read was Godblind by Anna Stephens which is an extremely dark fantasy story following many points of view which I borrowed from the library. I feel in love with it instantly and gave it 5 out of 5 stars. Review here.

The second book I read was Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. This was another book I borrowed from the library and I really liked the creepy atmosphere of it. I gave this 3 stars out of 5.

Then I read Emerald Dream the second in the Shadow Gold series by L. C. Perry. This book was even better than the first one and I adored the character development in it. I gave it 4.5 stars out of 5, review to come.

The fourth book I read was Red Sister by Mark Lawrence. This was another amazing dark fantasy and the writing is on point. I gave this 5 out of 5 stars. Review to come.

The next book I read was The Goodnight Kiss by Jennifer L. Hart. I was on the fence about this book for about the first half but after that I started to really enjoy it. I gave this 3.75 stars out of 5. Review here.

I also read The Bear and The Nightingale by Katherine Arden. I’m on the fence about this book as I didn’t love it but I also didn’t hate it so I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.

Lastly I read Spectacle Vol. 1 by Megan Rose Gedris. This graphic novel was fun and quick to read and I really liked the artwork in it. I gave this 3 out of 5 stars.

I kind of broke my book ban this month as I feel in love with Godblind by Anna Stephens when I borrowed it from the library and had to go straight out and buy it and as I bought it in Waterstones it was buy one get one half price so of course I had to get an other one which was Red Sister by Mark Lawrence. I also received my pre-order of Circe by Madeline Miller.

I also joined Netgalley this month and was accepted for

  • From Twinkle, With Love by Sandhya Menon
  • Lancelot by Giles Kristian
  • Circe by Madeline Miller

I have five words to say about this movie and that is I AM NOT OKAY!!!

I have a post on all of my thoughts about this movie coming up.

This movie met all expectations and I loved. I felt that the movie was executed very well and I adored the cast.

This year I finally started learning about mental health disorders in university so decided to watch some movies that follow characters with mental health illnesses and their journeys through treatment.

TV Shows

I watched the first two seasons of Skins this month. I really enjoyed how raw this is and I’m looking forward to watching the rest of the series.

I also saw the first season of Stranger things and I can’t believe it has taking me so long to watch this as its amazing and I’m officially hooked on it.

Music is something else that I’m really passionate about so I thought I would make this monthly post even longer than it already is and add a section for the artists and songs I’ve been loving that month.

This month I discovered the amazing Palaye Royale and have been listening to their songs on repeat most of this month and I will probably continue to do so for the foreseeable future. My favourite songs from them are Morning Light, Die For Something Beautiful, Ragdoll, and Mr Doctor Man

I’ve also been listening a lot to Icon For Hire who is my go band when my mental health starts getting bad.

How’s your month been? What have you been reading and watching this month?

  1. Awh, I’m so sorry that school has gotten you down. Good luck with the rest of the ones that you have left, and you can at least have a wonderful break for a while!! And I loveeeeeeeeeeeee Stranger Things. Just wait until you get to season 2. They do some amazing things with characterization in that one. It’s so captivating, and I’m so intrigued to see what you end up thinking of it. Wonderful wrap-up, Michaela, and hope those final ones go well!! ❤

Also, thank you for including me in the post! ❤ You're always so ridiculously sweet. ❤
