The Raven Cycle Series by Maggie Stiefvater, 4 Stars
This is a great series that I finally finished at the end of last year and though I love Maggie Stiefvaters’ other books this series is by far my favourite. The story follows Blue and her Raven Boys; Gansey, Ronan, Adam and Noah as they search for a dead Welsh King who is rumoured to be buried somewhere along the ley line of Henrietta and it is prophesised that the King will offer a favour to whoever finds him and wakes him up. Like all of her books the writing within this series is so beautiful, lyrical and unbelievably quotable. I adored the characters in this the bonds between them all are so beautiful and I love the woman of Fox Way and how they are actively involved it what the younger ones are doing and how they actively do what they can to protect them. The relationships within this are also so precious and I love the way each of them is developed. I gave each book in this series 4 out of 5 stars.
Finishing School Series by Gail Carriger by Maggie Stiefvater, 5 Stars
This is one of my all time favourite series and was my introduction to the steampunk genre (though I haven’t read nearly enough steampunk books as I would have liked). This book follows the story of Sophronia who’s parents send her to Finishing School in order for her to learn to be more ladylike however, what they are unaware of is that the school isn’t what it seems as not only does it teach young girls to become ladies it also teaches them how to be spies and assassins. This series is extremely fun, quirky and I read them all really quickly. Each book will have you laughing out loud the whole way through and are filled with amazing characters. I gave each book in this series 5 out of 5 stars.
The Memoirs of Lady Trent by Marie Brennan, 4 Stars
This was another great series that I read this year. These books are written as memoirs of Lady Trent where she tells us about her journey to becoming a dragon naturalist and the adventures she has and the discoveries she has made throughout her career, as well as the occasional scandal. This is the dragon series I have been waiting for and the series gets better and better as it goes on. Due to the nature of the story it is quite slow paced and it took me a while to really get into the story which is why the first two books have lower ratings but if I were to reread the series their ratings would definitely go up. Overall this series was really enjoyable and I would recommend it to anyone who loves dragons. I gave the first book 3.5 stars, the second book 3.75 stars, the next two books 4 stars and the last one 5 stars.
Have you read any of these series? What did you think of them? Can you recommend me any other steampunk books?
